Irish National Astronomy Meeting 2021 – First announcement

We are pleased to announce that The Irish National Astronomy Meeting 2021 (INAM 2021) will be held virtually between 1st-3rd September 2021. We look forward to once again showcasing the wide range of projects being carried out by Irish researchers in partnership with international collaborators.

In the interest of public safety, and in the absence of certainty over coronavirus restrictions in the second half of 2021, we have planned INAM 2021 as a fully virtual meeting. We hope that the virtual nature of INAM 2021 will encourage participation from those who might not be able to travel to an in-person meeting, and are looking forward to welcoming an exciting range of invited speakers from across Ireland and beyond.

Abstract submission and event registration will open on the INAM 2021 website (https://astronomers.ie/inam-2021/) in mid-June. The abstract submission deadline will be 17:00 IST on Friday 9th July. The registration fee will be €25 for faculty and postdocs, and free for students. The Peter Curran award for the best talk by a student will also be returning this year. The event code of conduct will also be available on the website shortly.

We look forward to seeing you at INAM 2021 in September!

PSD12 and VCI2022 – Deadline for abstract submission extended to 14th June

This message is to update colleagues on the 12th International Position Sensitive Detector conference, which is now being hosted from 12th to 17th September 2021 at the University of Birmingham (with conference web pages at http://www.psd12.co.uk/). Registration is open for both in-person and virtual participation, with the deadline for abstract submission now being extended to 17.00 on Monday 14th June.

In normal times these conferences are held every 3 years (see https://indico.cern.ch/category/9007/ for previous conferences) in the UK, 18 months out of phase with the sister conference, the Vienna Conference on Instrumentation (see for example: https://indico.cern.ch/event/716539/). Due to current circumstances PSD12 has been delayed to this year and will be offered in a “hybrid mode” (both in-person and virtual) with enhanced participation enabled for those only able to join remotely due to restrictions. Many more details can be found at the main conference web pages.

The conference series aims to bring together leaders in the field of instrumentation across a wide range of disciplines with younger members of this community and key industrial partners. All oral sessions are plenary and organised by topic with keynote speakers and submitted contributions in each area. There is also a two day programme of industrial exhibitions followed by a two day poster contributions programme organised in parallel with special facilities for online participation for those unable to travel to Birmingham.

Please see www.psd12.co.uk for much more information including the dates for registration and the organisation of the conference, for which we are offering a hybrid model (encouraging in-person attendance where possible but endeavouring to also offer a rich online experience for those only able to attend remotely).

We very much look forward to seeing you at the PSD12 conference.

Phil Allport
(On behalf of the Local and National Organising Committees of the 12th International Position Sensitive Detector Conference)
