Astronomy & Computing: special issue on Big Solar Data

Astronomy and Computing is preparing a special issue on Big Solar Data, with a submission deadline of 1 February next year. The call is below, with a slightly more detailed version at:

——

With the launch of NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) mission in 2010, researchers in solar physics have indisputably entered the era of Big Data. This has led to new challenges that are likely to expand further with the launch of the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST), currently under construction in Hawaii. This telescope is expected to generate an unprecedented 3-5 petabytes of data per year.

Astronomy and Computing has therefore opened up a Topical Issue on the Management, Search and Analysis of Solar Astronomy Big Data.

The issue is open for papers on the following topics:

• Foundations for Solar Astronomy Big Data Management
• Solar Data Retrieval, Visualization, Recognition and Data-Driven Analyses
• Computer Applications related to Solar Astronomy Big Data (Big Value in Solar Data)

Submissions for this topical issue will be accepted until February 1st 2015. In order to submit your contribution, please go to
www.ees.elsevier.com/ascom and select the article type SI: Big Solar Data.

Each paper will be thoroughly refereed as any other regular submission to the journal. For help with submission process, please contact the journal Editor Dr. Norman Gray (norman@astro.gla.ac.uk). On all other issues related to the scope of the special issue and questions about review process, please contact one of the Guest Editors directly.

The journal and Guest Editors very much look forward receiving your contribution.

Yours sincerely,

The Guest Editors
