UKSP Council News & NAM2016

#############################################################

UKSP Council News.

There have been some changes on the Council.

Our Deputy Chair, David Williams, has left the UK to take up a post working on Solar Orbiter at ESA in Madrid. We wish David welll in his new role, and thank him very much for his hard work and efficiency in the Deputy Chair role. UKSP could not have operated without David’s contribution, especially in terms of administering the newsletter. David is no longer eligible to remain in office, and according to our Constitution, the Chair has co-opted a temporary replacement to fill the role until the next elections (which will be formally inititiated at the UKSP Business meeting at NAM in June). I am very grateful that Iain Hannah has agreed to take on this role, so he will be acting Deputy Chair until the election.

Furthermore, Jack Carlyle, our PhD student, has also left the country, for a position in Oslo. We also thank Jack for his service to the Council, especially in the area of social media. Since the elections are now imminent, it is not propsoed to co-opt a replacement.

Finally, this is an early warning that all Council places will be open for nominations after NAM, so please start thinking about volunteering or nominating your colleagues.

Philippa Browning (UKSP Chair)

National Astronomy Meeting/UKSP2016

A reminder that abstract submission is now open for NAM2016 (Notttingham 27th June – 1st July), deadline April 8th.

As usual, UK Solar Physics are holding our annual meeting as part of NAM, and we have a full programme of solar sessions running throughout the week. Thanks to all session organisers for contributing to this programme. There is also a solar plenary talk by Ineke de Moortel.

Instead of the rather rushed UKSP Business lunch, we will have a more leisurely UKSP Business meeting during the “Special Interests” afternoon on Wednesday afternoon. This could include short reports on missions and projects (current or future), and discussion on outreach activities. If you have suggestions for the Agenda of this meeting, or wish to make a presentation, please contact the Chair (p.browning@manchester.ac.uk). UKSP lunch will run as a social/networking event.
