Postdoctoral Research Assistant position in Solar Physics and Space Weather at New Mexico State University

A two-year postdoctoral research assistantship in solar physics is available at New Mexico State University. Applicants interested in any area of heliophysics are encouraged to apply, with desirable areas of research including:

Coronal seismology;
Chromospheric heating;
Spectroscopy (optical, EUV, X-ray) of solar flares;
Kinematics and energetic of CMES;
Coronal holes, and their effect on the solar wind;
Self-Organized Criticality, turbulence and complexity ;
Solar flare prediction.

Candidates with experience in image processing, wavelet analysis, Bayesian statistics or ground-based observing are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work with a growing solar physics and space weather research group at NMSU, including access to computing assets, travel funds, and personal research time. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in solar physics or a closely related subject, or expect to obtain one shortly. The proposed starting date is June 2014, although a later starting date (1-2 months) can be negotiated. This position is jointly funded by NASA awards and a NSF Career award under the supervision of Professor McAteer.

Applications consisting of a 3-page CV, 2 letters of reference, and a 1-page research plan identifying an area (or areas) of research should be sent directly to mcateer@nmsu.edu. All applications submitted before April 25 will be assured of equal assessment and the position will remain open until filled. NMSU is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages applications from underrepresented minorities and female scientists. The 2nd year is contingent upon satisfactory progress.
