PhD Studentships in Solar Physics / Magnetohydrodynamics – University of Dundee

Applications are invited for full-time PhD studentships in the School of Science & Engineering, University of Dundee. These fully funded studentships will be in the field of Solar Physics / Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Depending on the interest of the student the projects will involve mathematical and computational modelling of complex magnetic fields in plasmas, with particular reference to magnetic fields in the solar atmosphere. There are presently two opportunities:

(1) A full 3.5 year studentship from STFC for UK students (fees and maintenance) is available. Candidates are invited to apply by 15th of February 2016, but later applications might still be considered until the position has been filled. (2) The School is also currently offering 3.5-year EPSRC-funded studentships. The application deadline is 25th March 2016.

Candidates should hold or expect to hold a 1st class (or high 2:1) degree. The projects would suit students with a background in Applied Mathematics, Physics or Astrophysics.
