Solar Orbiter/SPICE Data Release 5.0 is Available

The SPICE team is pleased to announce data release 5.0: https://doi.org/10.48326/idoc.medoc.spice.5.0

This release contains all SPICE observations from the beginning of the Solar Orbiter cruise phase until 2024-08-01, and it will be updated as new data become available. The latest version of the SPICE files in the ESA Solar Orbiter archive https://soar.esac.esa.int/ currently corresponds to this release.

Compared to release 4.0, it includes many improvements, as detailed in the change log in the release notes. In particular, it includes updated absolute calibration, use of combined or cleaned dark maps for dark subtraction, updated burn-in correction (for intense spectral lines), time-dependent detector response, updated distortion correction, updated temperature-dependent wavelength scale, pointing corrected for the effect of stellar aberration, updated SPICE vs. spacecraft offset correction, and a fix for a bug that previously led to incorrect intensities in some cases of binned windows.
