PhD position in MHD at Durham University

We are currently advertising for a fully funded 3.5-year STFC studentship in the area of astrophysical MHD (magnetohydrodynamics), to start in October 2023. This will include fee payments (for either home or overseas students) and doctoral stipend at the standard UKRI rates.

The student would join the Applied & Computational Mathematics group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The precise topic of the studentship is open for discussion; preferred supervisors are Dr Laura Currie (mathematical and numerical modelling of how stratified convection interacts with magnetic fields) or Dr Peter Wyper (mathematical and numerical modelling of how coronal mass ejections are triggered, or numerical modelling of solar flare reconnection and its relation to flare ribbon structures).

There is no fixed deadline but we anticipate making offers shortly after March 31.

For more details, or if you are interested in applying, please contact Dr Currie and/or Dr Wyper, linked from https://www.durham.ac.uk/departments/academic/mathematical-sciences/research/areas/applied–computational-mathematics/
