Forthcoming Projects Peer Review Panel (PPRP) meeting

Forthcoming Projects Peer Review Panel (PPRP) meeting
The next meeting of the Projects Peer Review Panel (PPRP) will take place in the Cockcroft Institute, Sci-Tech Daresbury, Daresbury, Warrington, WA4 4AD on the 4th & 5th July 2017. The Panel will be reviewing two project proposals.

Members of the science community should contact Tahmina Aziz on telephone 01793 442058 or e-mail tahmina.aziz@stfc.ac.uk if they are likely to attend the open presentation.
The proposals being reviewed is as follows:
4th July 2017

13.15 – 14.15 – Continuing Exploitation of UK Investment in JCMT

The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) is a submillimetre-wavelength telescope at Mauna Kea Observatory in Hawaii.

This consortium proposes that the UK community continues to play a role in the partnership that is now operating the James Clerk Maxwell telescope (JCMT) for the 3 year period 2018-2020 inclusive. This follows on from the operation of JCMT over the past 3 years by the East Asian Observatory (EAO), along with contributions from the UK community and Canadian community after STFC handed over ownership of the facility in early 2015. The requested funding from STFC, along with the matched funding from the Universities in the consortium, will allow the UK community to roughly have a 20% interest in the facility.

The Panel goes into closed session for the rest of the day.

5th July 2017

09.30 – 10.30 – e-MERLIN Continued Operations 2018-2023
10.45 – 11.45 – e-MERLIN Development 2018 – 2023

e-MERLIN is an array of seven radio telescopes forming the UK’s national facility for high resolution radio astronomy observations.

This proposal seeks support for five years to continue and enhance operations of e-MERLIN as a UK national facility and to embark on a modular upgrade programme to enhance and extend the capabilities of e-MERLIN in all key aspects, including sensitivity, bandwidth, frequency range, field-of-view and data processing throughput.

The Panel goes into closed session for the rest of the day.
