The IAU Ph.D. Prizes recognize outstanding scientific achievements in astrophysics around the world. One of these prizes will be awarded in 2018 to a candidate who has carried out exceptional work in the previous year in the field of solar and heliospheric physics as part of their Ph.D. research, as judged by the Steering Committee of IAU Division E, Sun and Heliosphere.

To be considered for this prize, candidates are required to submit by 15 December 2017 an abstract of their thesis that is suitable for public consumption, a 1500-word thesis summary, three brief letters of recommendation (including one from the PhD advisor), and a CV. Theses must have been defended between the 16 December 2016 and 15 December 2017 to be eligible for the 2018 IAU Ph.D. Prize.
