RAS SD Meeting “Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics in the Solar Atmosphere and Interior” – First Announcement

Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce that our Special Discussion Meeting on “Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics in the Solar Atmosphere and Interior” has been supported by RAS and is currently scheduled for Friday 11th October 2024 (can be put in calendars as a placeholder). More details on the meeting organisation to follow.

The preliminary topics to be covered in the meeting include:

Thermal instability and thermal misbalance
Thermal non-equilibrium in the solar atmosphere
Coronal rain and prominences
Chromosphere-corona mass and energy flows (associated with these instabilities)
Magnetic reconnection (in the context of thermal instability and non-equilibrium)
Non-adiabatic surface effects in helioseismology and connections to the atmospheric dynamics
