PhD position in solar physics at the University of Warwick

We are currently advertising for a fully funded 3.5-year STFC studentship in the area of solar physics and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) wave dynamics, to start in October 2023. This will include fee payments (for either home or overseas students) and doctoral stipend at the standard UKRI rates.

The student will join the Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics (CFSA) within the department of Physics at Warwick. The student will benefit from the inherently multi-disciplinary nature of the Centre, which researches topics in magnetically and inertially confined fusion, solar, heliospheric and magnetospheric physics. The student will work with Dr Erwin Verwichte to investigate the interaction of MHD waves with plasma flows in the chromosphere of the Sun. This will be achieved through the analysis of observations from ground-based solar observatories in tandem with numerical modelling of the MHD wave dynamics.

The deadline for applications is 15th April. We anticipate to make offers near the end of April.

For more details, or if you are interested to apply, please visit the Department’s postgraduate admissions webpage at
