PhD Studentship in Solar Physics / Magnetohydrodynamics – University of Dundee

Applications are invited for a full-time PhD studentship in the School of Science & Engineering, University of Dundee. This is a fully-funded 3.5 year studentship from STFC (fees and stipend), and will be in the field of Solar Physics / Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Depending on the interests of the student the project will involve mathematical and computational modelling of complex magnetic fields in plasmas, with relevance to understanding phenomena in the solar atmosphere.

Candidates are invited to apply by 1st of March 2017, but later applications might still be considered until the position has been filled. The project is also open to self-funded applicants from any country all year round. Further details, including an application form, are found on http://www.maths.dundee.ac.uk/mhd/phd.shtml.

Candidates should hold or expect to hold a 1st class (or high 2:1) degree, or relevant MSc. The project would suit students with a background in Applied Mathematics, Physics or Astrophysics.

The Solar Physics group at Dundee presently consists of three permanent members of staff (Prof G. Hornig, Dr D. Pontin, Dr A. Russell), two STFC-funded PDRAs and three PhD students. Please see also our web page: http://www.maths.dundee.ac.uk/mhd/

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr David Pontin at d.i.pontin@dundee.ac.uk .

The University of Dundee is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
