Deadline Approaching for registering the ICDSS2023 “Observing the Sun-Earth System as an Extrasolar System” session

The extended deadline is approaching for registering for the ICDSS2023 “Observing the Sun-Earth System as an Exosolar System” session (Topical Session 4) during the International Conference of Deep Space Science 2023 (ICDSS2023) which will be held in Hefei, China from 24th to 30th April 2023.

Registrations should be done via http://planet.ustc.edu.cn/icdss before 3rd March 2023. The conference will be held in hybrid mode, while in-person attendance is highly encouraged.

Among more than 5000 exoplanets discovered up to now, around 60 are believed to be potentially habitable. The Sun-Earth system provides a unique example based on which detailed insights into the properties, formation, evolution, and thus habitability of exoplanets could be gained. During this session, we will focus on understanding the critical characterizations related to the habitability of the Sun-Earth system, what we could learn from the solar system as a baseline for exoplanet studies, and ongoing/upcoming space missions for solar system and exoplanet research.

The topical session consists of four topics:
1) Sun as a star: global EUV responses of solar activities,
2) The energy budget of the Earth’s climate system and its key controlling factors,
3) Earth as an exoplanet: global and regional characteristics of the visible and near-infrared Earth, and
4) Impact of solar activities on the habitability of Earth.

Convenors of the session are: Dr. Siteng Fan (LMD, France), Prof. Robert von Fay-Siebenburgen (UoS, UK), Dr. Jonathan Jiang (CIT, US), Prof. Rui Li (USTC, China) and Prof. Jiajia Liu (USTC, China)

Confirmed invited speakers include experts on solar physics, atmospheric physics, and planetary science from Caltech, Chinese Academy of Science, JAXA, Peking University, Queen’s University Belfast and University of Colorado etc.
