The fourth Symposium in the series of International Space Climate Symposia,
“Space Climate 4”, will be held in Goa, India, from 16-21st January, 2011.
The focus of this Symposium will be on the causes and consequences of
long-term solar variability. Topics will include the dynamo generation of
solar magnetic fields, solar irradiance variations, solar forcing of the
heliosphere, Earth’s atmosphere, and global and regional climate. A
dedicated session will discuss the unusual minimum of solar cycle 23 and its
implications about minimum activity levels in the Sun.
Invited speakers include: Jurg Beer, Amitava Bhattacharjee, Archana
Bhattacharyya, Gufran Beig, Paul Charbonneau, Arnab Rai Choudhuri, Jonathan
Cirtain, Bas van Geel, Katya Georgieva, Sarah Gibson, Natchimuthuk
Gopalswamy, Madhulika Guhathakurta, Edward Guinan, Arnold Hanslmeier, Siraj
Hasan, Andrew Jones, Monika Korte, Franz-Josef Luebken,  P.K. Manoharan,
Piet Martens, Hiroko Miyahara, Kalevi Mursula, Dibyendu Nandi, Dean Pesnell,
Jean-Pierre Rozelot, R. Ramesh, Alexander Ruzmaikin, Steve Saar, Werner
Schmutz, Annika Seppala, Sami Solanki, Leif Svalgaard, Brian Tinsley, Bruce
Tsurutani, Ilya Usoskin, Jose Vaquero, Jan Veizer, and Angelos Vourlidas.

This symposium is supported by the following organizations: CAWSES/SCOSTEP,
Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Indian
Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, Montana State
University, Bozeman, NASA Living With a Star Program, National Center for
Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa and University of Oulu.

Registration, abstract submission and accommodation booking can be accessed
through the meeting web page. Financial assistance requests are now closed.

Note that the registration deadline has been extended.
Registration closes: 19th November, 2010.

We look forward to seeing you in Goa!

Sincerely Yours,

Dibyendu Nandi (LOC Chair, Indian Institute of Science Education and
Research, Kolkata),

Space Climate Symposium-4

Dear Colleagues and Friends!
We have the great pleasure to invite You to

 Space Climate Symposium-4

which will be held in Neelams the Grand Hotel, Goa, India, on 16-21 January, 2011. Space Climate is an interdisciplinary science that deals with the long-term change in the Sun, and its effects in the heliosphere and in the near-Earth environment, including the atmosphere and climate. A special focus during this Symposium will be to study the causes, consequences and implications of the unusual solar cycle 23 that, most likely, has ended the Modern Grand Maximum of solar activity. Other topics include, e.g., solar dynamo, irradiance variations, solar wind, geomagnetic field and activity, cosmic rays and cosmogenic isotopes, and solar effects on different layers of the atmosphere and on local and global climate.

Invited speakers include, e.g., Jürg Beer, Archana Bhattacharyya, Paul Charbonneau, Gufran Beig, Katya Georgieva, Sarah Gibson, Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy, Madhulika Guhathakurta, Joanna Haigh, Siraj Hasan, Monica Korte, P.K. Manoharan, Piet Martens, Hiroku Miyahara, Mark Miesch, Martin Mlynczak, Kalevi Mursula, Dibyendu Nandi, Vladimir Obridko, Dean Pesnell, Jean-Pierre Rozelot, Alexander Ruzmaikin, Annika Seppälä, Sami Solanki, Brian Tinsley, Ilya Usoskin, and Tom Woods (some still to be verified).

Further details on abstract submission, registration, and accommodation will be available soon at the meeting websites
               http://www.iiserkol.ac.in/~spaceclimate4/
               http://solar.physics.montana.edu/~spaceclimate4/
and will be outlined in the second announcement. Partial financial assistance for needy students and scientists may be available contingent upon the availability of funding.

Welcome to SCS-4 in Goa!

Sincerely Yours,

Dibyendu Nandi (LOC chair)
Kalevi Mursula (SOC chair)
