WISA 2023 meeting @ Northumbria

The first Waves and Instabilities in the Solar Atmosphere (WISA) meeting will be held 20-23 June 2023 at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

The Sun’s atmosphere provides a unique laboratory to examine magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) phenomena that occur in magnetised plasmas. The WISA series meetings are the follow-up to the BUKS meetings and are dedicated to progressing our understanding of MHD wave phenomena; examining how they drive and contribute to the observed dynamics from the photosphere to the corona, and how they can be exploited to probe plasma conditions.

This meeting will focus on four key topics, namely:

– Wave generation, energy transport, dissipation and heating
– Instabilities
– Seismology of solar and stellar atmospheres
– Novel diagnostic techniques and forward modelling
