Marianna Korsos (Candidate for Deputy Chair)

My name is Marianna Korsos. I am an Early Career Researcher who is passionate about solar and solar-terrestrial research. My main focus is on developing space weather forecasting research, both theory (e.g. flare prediction, machine learning) and instrumentation (contributing to the UK-lead SAMNet facility).

I have already served a cycle on UKSP Council. During this period, I have learned the UKSP council can do a lot for our community even in the hard times. During the pandemia period, we won RAS funding to buy a zoom license for the community, which anyone can use it freely. We organised online meetings to keep together our community during that period (e.g. UKSP Specialist Discussion Days, UK-SOSS). I also see that the UKSP Council plays a vitally important role in securing our future with STFC, UKRI, RAS, etc…

Now, I would like to continue to help and contribute to and further shape our community as deputy chair. I have always loved communicating science at all levels (Conversation, over 200 short astro news, etc). If I will be elected, I will work as hard as possible to help the UKSP Chair to raise our community profile with our peers, decision makers and, of course, with the public.
