Matthew Lennard (Candidate for PhD Position)

I am currently a second year PhD student in the Plasma Dynamics Group at the University of Sheffield. I am eager to learn more about how the scientific community functions and interested in ways of improving the community. Making science accessible and the community robust are two things that I am deeply passionate about.

I have good familiarity with myriad social platforms and experience using these to educate and inform a broad community with up-to-date and relevant information. I have relished in communicating ideas between parties and amplifying concerned and underrepresented voices when working with the School of Mathematics and Statistics in Sheffield as a student ambassador. I wish to extend these experiences to a greater community where I can ensure that meetings with UKSP are productive and address relevant issues and promote the advancement of knowledge of the field as well as methods of doing this.

I take great pride in the fact that my current work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative with institutions around the globe such as the IAC in Europe, LASP in the USA, and others, giving me insight into the wider community and surrounding fields. After already hearing concerns from fellow PGRs and full time academics from around the world, it is my wish to make sure that ideas are effectively expressed to and explored by the government and other policy makers relating to UKSP.
